MGM Resorts sued over alleged anti‑LGBTQ assault at Detroit casino
Lesbian spouses Celia Haueter and Chelsi Way filed a civil lawsuit against MGM Resorts International, alleging that security staff at the MGM Grand Detroit casino watched and filmed a violent anti‑LGBTQ attack on them outside the venue in July 2025. The assault, carried out by William Wilson, left Haueter unconscious with a traumatic brain injury, concussion, facial lacerations and ongoing post‑traumatic stress. The plaintiffs claim security guards failed to intervene, instead recording the incident, and that the casino continued to serve alcohol to the attacker despite signs of intoxication. Wilson later pleaded guilty to assault and received two years’ probation in March 2025. The lawsuit asserts that MGM had a duty to protect guests, call police and take reasonable measures to stop the violence, which it allegedly neglected.
