Turkish political shifts: MP transfers and alliance signals

Political shifts are occurring in Turkey ahead of the new legislative year. Reports suggest that three members of parliament—two from İYİ Parti and one from Yeni Parti—may join the AK Parti, potentially increasing the ruling party's seat count in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.

In separate developments, Saadet Partisi leader Mahmut Arıkan expressed openness to potential political cooperation with the Cumhur İttifakı (People's Alliance). Arıkan noted that due to the 50+1 election threshold, his party must seek cooperation with various political entities to achieve its goal of coming to power.

MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız has called for reforms to the political party system, criticizing the proliferation of so-called ‘signboard parties’ that exist primarily for profit or negotiation rather than democratic representation. He suggested that a new election law compatible with the Presidential Government System is necessary to address the current landscape of 189 registered political parties.
