MHP protests Datça Mayor over council speaking rights

Political tensions are rising in Turkey following disputes within local municipal councils and internal friction within the Yeni Parti.

In Datça, the MHP Muğla Provincial Presidency has criticized Datça Mayor Aytaç Kurt, alleging that MHP Council Member Melis Uzun Özlü was denied the right to speak during a municipal council meeting while members of other parties were granted the floor. MHP officials stated that the council podium belongs to the people of Datça and should not be used based on political affiliation, emphasizing that the exclusion of a female representative undermines democratic representation.

Simultaneously, the Yeni Parti is experiencing internal instability ahead of its district congresses. Reports indicate power struggles and candidate disputes in various regions, including Biga, where the founding district president withdrew from his candidacy amid allegations of interference. In Trabzon, Semih Abdik has announced his candidacy for the Yeni Parti Of District Presidency, receiving significant social media support as the party attempts to organize its local structures.
