MHP's takeover of Nitsiakos to reshape Greece's poultry market

Ukrainian agribusiness group MHP, led by billionaire Yuriy Kosiuk, completed the acquisition of a 70% stake in Greek poultry producer Nitsiakos through its subsidiary Perutnina. The deal, first announced in late May and approved in July, gives MHP control over one of Greece's most recognized poultry brands, which has strong vertical integration and a significant domestic presence.

Analysts expect the takeover could lower production costs for Nitsiakos by using cheaper feed and other efficiencies, allowing the company to offer lower retail prices. Competing Greek producers may respond by accelerating their own investment plans, revising pricing strategies, or shifting toward premium and organic products. The acquisition also opens the possibility of new collaborations with local poultry cooperatives, such as those in Arta and Ioannina, and could lead to further consolidation in the sector.
