MHRA reports over 200 deaths linked to weight loss injections
The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has released new data regarding adverse reactions associated with weight loss medications Mounjaro, Wegovy, and Saxenda. According to the Yellow Card reporting system, over 200 deaths have been reported in connection with these treatments.
The breakdown of reported deaths includes 120 cases related to Mounjaro (tirzepatide), 59 cases related to Wegovy (semaglutide), and 37 cases related to Saxenda (liraglutide). Additionally, the agency recorded approximately 15,000 serious adverse reactions and nearly 158,000 non-serious reactions.
Authorities emphasized that a direct causal link between the medications and the reported deaths has not been demonstrated. In many instances, the affected individuals may have had pre-existing conditions or undiagnosed illnesses that could have contributed to the fatalities.
