Mi Hazánk proposes chemical castration for pedophiles in Hungary

Előd Novák, a representative of the Mi Hazánk party, has submitted a legislative proposal to the Hungarian Parliament to introduce chemical castration for perpetrators of pedophilic crimes. The proposal argues that current regulations are insufficient to prevent recidivism among sexual offenders, whose crimes cause irreparable harm to victims.

Following the model used in Poland, the initiative prioritizes pharmacological treatment using antiandrogen drugs over psychiatric care in closed institutions. The goal is to reduce sexual drive to prevent future offenses. The proposal suggests that such hormonal treatments be carried out at the Forensic Observation and Psychiatric Institute.

While chemical castration is utilized as a legal sanction in 38 countries, including several EU member states, the Orbán government previously rejected its introduction in 2013, citing concerns regarding human dignity, the right to health, and the prohibition of inhumane treatment.
