MI6 tops European intelligence ranking, Poland's agency ninth
A ranking of European intelligence services compiled by more than a hundred current and former officials from Europe and allied nations placed the United Kingdom’s MI6 at the top with 251 points. France’s DGSE came second with 169 points, the Dutch AIVD third with 97 points, followed by Ukraine’s SBU and Germany’s intelligence services. Poland’s Agencja Wywiadu (AW) was ranked ninth overall, but several jurors highlighted its deep knowledge of the EU’s eastern neighbours, noting it could merit a third‑ or fourth‑place position. Former heads and senior figures praised MI6’s global reach, technical expertise and Five‑Eyes network, while former Mossad director Yossi Cohen called it the world’s best special service. Comments from former CIA Europe chief Ralph Goff and former Portuguese intelligence chief Jorge Silva Carvalho underscored the strategic importance of the agencies in the current security environment.
