Mexico secures multiple gold medals at youth diving and MMA world championships

Mexican athletes achieved significant success at international youth championships in diving and mixed martial arts.

At the 2026 World Junior Diving Championships in Rijeka, Croatia, twins Mía and Lía Cueva secured a historic 1-2 finish in the women’s 1-meter springboard (Group B, ages 14-15). Mía took gold with 335.45 points, while Lía earned silver with 335.40 points, narrowly defeating China’s Xiangling Cheng, who took bronze. Additionally, Adriana Torres and Suri Cueva earned a silver medal in the women’s 10-meter synchronized platform.

In Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Mexico also performed strongly at the IMMAF World Junior Mixed Martial Arts Championships. Wendy Lara Barraza became a three-time world champion in the Junior B category, securing gold after defeating Sofia Zaslavskaia in the final. Mariana Michel Estrada Rueda also claimed a gold medal in the 77.1 kg division. These victories helped Mexico secure fourth place in the overall team standings.
