Mia Couto Literary Prize announces ten finalists for 2025 edition

The jury for the fourth edition of the Mia Couto Literary Prize has announced ten finalists across two categories: Poetry and Short Story. The initiative, promoted by Cornelder de Moçambique in partnership with the Kulemba Association, aims to encourage and recognize Mozambican literary production.

The Poetry finalists include works by Julius Kazembe, Lino Mukurruza, Angelina Neves, Ben Jone, and Sangare Okapi. The Short Story finalists are Luís Nhambungué, Bruno M. Areno, Victorino Ubisse, Eduardo Quive, and Ernestino Maute.

This year's competition received 63 submissions, with 34 in Poetry and 29 in Short Story, representing 22 different Mozambican publishing houses. The winners in each category will be announced on October 8 in the city of Beira and will each receive a monetary prize of 400,000 meticais.
