Miami-Dade authorities seek driver after fatal hit-and-run involving children

Authorities in Miami-Dade are searching for a driver who fled the scene after striking two children riding a bicycle. The incident resulted in the death of a 10-year-old girl.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO), the collision occurred on a Wednesday night. The victims, identified in reports as minors aged 10, 12, and 14, were riding bicycles when they were struck. Both victims were transported to trauma centers in critical condition; however, the 10-year-old girl later succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators are reviewing evidence from the scene, including plastic fragments from a vehicle's front grille. While descriptions of the vehicle vary between a silver or gray Nissan Versa (2009-2012) and a dark Ford Explorer or similar SUV (2015-2020), detectives are working to identify the suspect. The MDSO Transit Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, and officials have urged the public to report any vehicles with recent front-end damage.
