Miami-Dade County increases limit for Israel bond investments

Miami-Dade County commissioners voted unanimously to increase the ceiling for investments in Israeli government debt from 3% to 5% of the county’s investment portfolio. While the county is not mandated to reach this new limit, the resolution provides the option to do so.

As of June, the county had approximately 1.5% of its portfolio, totaling $130 million, invested in Israel bonds. Recent reports indicate at least one additional $11 million purchase was made following the third-quarter investment report.

During the meeting, some residents spoke against the move, arguing that the decision prioritizes high-risk foreign bonds over the safety and liquidity of public funds. The measure, sponsored by Commissioner René Garcia, passed as part of the commission’s initial agenda vote without separate debate on the dais.
