Miami-Dade rescue teams deploy to Florida ahead of Hurricane Isaias
Emergency responders from Miami-Dade have been deployed to northern Florida to assist communities threatened by Hurricane Isaias. The mobilization includes 88 specialists from the Florida Task Force One (FL-TF1), an Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) unit, along with officers and supervisors from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office.
The rescue contingent, which includes four canine teams and personnel trained for swift water rescues, is heading toward Tallahassee to coordinate relief efforts. Their capabilities include locating trapped individuals, providing emergency medical assistance, and evaluating damaged or collapsed structures. To ensure coordination during potential network outages, the teams are equipped with satellite communication systems.
As the storm approaches the northern Gulf Coast, the National Hurricane Center reports that Isaias has intensified into a category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 195 km/h. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in the far western part of Florida's northwest, bringing threats of destructive winds, storm surges, and heavy rainfall.
