Miami Heat claim guard Bez Mbeng off waivers

The Miami Heat have claimed guard Bez Mbeng off waivers following his release by the Charlotte Hornets. Mbeng is expected to sign an Exhibit 10 contract and participate in the team’s upcoming training camp practices.

Mbeng, a former Yale University standout and multi-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, split the previous season between the Utah Jazz and the Heat’s G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. During his 15 appearances with Utah, he averaged 8.1 points, 4.1 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.

If Mbeng remains with the Skyforce for at least 60 days, he will be eligible for a bonus of up to $91,000. This roster addition brings the Heat’s training camp total to 19 players.
