Miami Heat eyes Klay Thompson but waits for buyout

The Miami Heat have expressed interest in acquiring former Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson, but the franchise wants a very specific scenario before making a move. According to Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer, Miami would consider a deal only if the Dallas Mavericks reach a buyout agreement with Thompson, which would free him from the final year of his current contract. At present, no such buyout talks have been reported, and Thompson remains under contract with the Mavericks for the 2024‑25 season.

Heat executives are reluctant to absorb Thompson's existing salary and prefer to wait for a contract termination that would make a trade feasible. Fischer added that other teams are likely monitoring the situation as well, but no concrete trade proposals have emerged. Until a buyout materialises, the Thompson saga is expected to stay at a standstill.
