Miami Heat roster updates involve Jimmy Butler legacy and Klay Thompson
Speculation regarding Jimmy Butler’s legacy with the Miami Heat has resurfaced after Bam Adebayo shared a social media graphic predicting which active NBA players will have their jerseys retired. The post suggested the Heat would eventually retire Butler’s No. 22. This follows a contentious departure in 2025, where Butler was traded to the Golden State Warriors after failing to reach a two-year, $111 million contract extension with Miami.
Regarding the Heat’s current roster, Klay Thompson is considered a leading candidate for the starting shooting guard position. While his defensive and physical attributes have diminished at age 36, his floor-spacing ability remains a key factor for the team.
Additionally, Pelle Larsson has signed a four-year, $60 million extension with the Heat, pending a physical. Due to the terms of the deal, Larsson will be ineligible for trades for six months, making him the only player on the roster unavailable for the February trade deadline.
