Miami Heat sign center Nick Richards to one-year deal

The Miami Heat have signed free-agent center Nick Richards to a one-year contract, filling the 14th roster spot. The deal is expected to be a veteran minimum agreement, with the salary becoming guaranteed only if Richards remains on the roster through the season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Richards, a 6-foot-11 veteran of six NBA seasons, joins the Heat following stints with the Charlotte Hornets, Phoenix Suns, and Chicago Bulls. He brings interior depth to a frontcourt that includes Bam Adebayo, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Bobby Portis. During the previous season, Richards averaged 5.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 14.6 minutes per game.

In addition to the Richards signing, the Heat announced that forward Keshad Johnson has re-signed to a two-way contract. The team is scheduled to open training camp on September 29.
