Miami hosts opening FIFA World Cup match amid extreme heat
Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, renamed “Miami Stadium” for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, staged its opening match on June 15 as Saudi Arabia faced Uruguay. Officials reminded fans that only ticket‑holders may enter, urged early arrival, and highlighted multiple security checkpoints, limited parking, designated rideshare drop‑off zones and a free Game Day Express shuttle. They also warned that road closures begin at 5 a.m. on match days and advised using public transit.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory with a 107 °F heat index for the day. Attendees were urged to stay hydrated, seek air‑conditioned spaces, wear lightweight clothing and limit strenuous outdoor activity. The venue will host seven matches through July, including group‑stage games, a Round of 32, a quarter‑final and the third‑place match.
