Miami International Airport: Suspect detained after reports of gunfire
A man was taken into custody following reports of gunfire at Miami International Airport (MIA) on Wednesday afternoon. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) responded to the incident around 4:05 p.m. after reports that shots were fired near the terminal.
Authorities stated that the individual reportedly fired rounds toward the ground or a garbage can near the entrance doors, specifically in the vicinity of Gate 17. While the exact circumstances are under investigation, officials confirmed there was no ongoing threat to the public and no injuries were reported among passengers or employees.
The police response caused temporary disruptions at the airport, including the closure of the departure-level roadway and the terminal area between gates 12 and 17. Vehicle traffic was diverted to the arrivals level during the operation. Law enforcement presence was significant, with some officers deploying tactical gear and rifles. The affected roadways and terminal sections were later reopened once the scene was secured.
