Miami Man Ariel Espinosa Sentenced to 27 Years for Exploiting Cuban Minor

Ariel Espinosa, a 63‑year‑old resident of Miami, was sentenced by a U.S. federal judge to 324 months (27 years) in prison after pleading guilty to attempting to produce and transport child sexual abuse material. The victim was a 14‑year‑old boy living in Cuba. During a secondary inspection at Miami International Airport, agents discovered hundreds of explicit images and videos on Espinosa's phone, as well as messages in which he repeatedly paid the minor and instructed him to create the material.

Federal prosecutor Jason A. Reding Quiñones said, “Ariel Espinosa knew his victim was only 14 years old; nevertheless, he paid and gave instructions to the minor repeatedly to create sexually explicit material for his own gratification.” The investigation was led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in Miami, under special agent José R. Figueroa, with cooperation from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The case underscores the reach of U.S. law enforcement in combating cross‑border child sexual exploitation.
