Miami Marlins exercise Sandy Alcantara's 2027 club option

The Miami Marlins have exercised a $21 million club option for right-handed pitcher Sandy Alcantara for the 2027 season. Had the team declined the option, they would have faced a $2 million buyout.

Alcantara, 31, recorded 13 wins and 11 losses with a 3.87 ERA in 36 games during the 2026 season. Over 214 innings, he recorded 153 strikeouts and 59 walks. The former National League Cy Young Award winner previously missed the 2024 season due to Tommy John surgery.

Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix highlighted Alcantara's importance to the organization, citing his pitching performance and clubhouse leadership as key factors in the decision.
