Miami University defeats UMass 20-19 in close football matchup
The Miami University RedHawks secured a 20-19 victory over the UMass Minutemen on Saturday. The win brings Miami to a 3-3 record (1-1 MAC), while UMass moves to 4-2 (1-2 MAC).
UMass, playing without its top two quarterbacks and top three receivers, mounted a late comeback led by freshman quarterback Logan Inagawa. Following a 21-yard touchdown pass from Inagawa to Max Dowling with one second remaining, UMass attempted a two-point conversion to win the game. The attempt failed when Miami linebacker Malcolm McCain tackled Reece Adkins during a trick play designed by offensive coordinator Max Warner.
Earlier in the game, Miami built a lead through a 20-yard touchdown run by Scoop Smith, a nine-yard keeper by Caleb Heavner, and a 47-yard field goal by Kellan McLaughlin. UMass managed to trim the deficit late in the game, but the final defensive stand by the RedHawks prevented a walk-off victory.
