Miami's Bal Harbour and Design District Showcase Art Ahead of 2026 World Cup
British artist Jon‑Paul Wheatley’s 12 Pentagons project places a monumental soccer‑ball sculpture titled Badly Drawn Ball in the center courtyard of Bal Harbour Shops from June 10‑28 2026, with an interactive digital station for visitors to sketch their own designs. After its mall run, the piece moves to Bal Harbour Village Beach for July 1‑27. The installation coincides with Miami’s preparation for matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, turning the luxury shopping district into a cultural showcase.
The nearby Miami Design District, a walkable 15‑block enclave of luxury boutiques, Michelin‑rated restaurants and public art, is promoted as a complementary destination for World Cup visitors. Owned by Miami Design District Associates, the area highlights institutions such as the Institute of Contemporary Art and positions Miami as a growing global center for culture and creativity.
