Miaoli County holds concert despite typhoon-related school closures

The Miaoli County Government proceeded with the ‘2026 Shan Niang Qing Chun Concert’ on October 23, despite declaring a suspension of work and classes due to Typhoon Prapiroon. The event, held at the Miaoli Dome Gymnasium, featured various artists including Jacky Wu and various local performers.

Magistrate Chung Tung-chin defended the decision, stating that the performers' schedules were already finalized and rescheduling would cause significant difficulties. While the concert is an indoor event, critics and opposition candidates have raised concerns regarding public safety, noting that local transportation services like Miaoli Bus and Taiwan Railways had suspended operations, and reports of fallen trees and downed power lines had emerged.

To mitigate risks, the county government provided an online live stream for those unable to attend safely. Officials also increased security personnel, enhanced facility inspections, and implemented traffic management to ensure safety for those attending the indoor venue.
