MiCA regulation increases European crypto user trust
The implementation of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) in Europe is increasing retail investor trust in regulated digital asset platforms. Bitpanda executives note that the framework provides clear, uniform rules that improve security and transparency, encouraging users to favor licensed exchanges over self-custody methods.
However, industry leaders warn that effective enforcement remains a significant challenge. While MiCA aims to replace a patchwork of national regulations, there is a risk that compliant firms face a competitive disadvantage if regulators fail to penalize non-compliant or unauthorized third-country providers operating within the European Economic Area.
Bitpanda has already secured authorizations from Germany’s BaFin and Austria’s FMA, allowing it to operate across the region. Despite the benefits of regulatory clarity, the company has faced oversight, including a €70,000 fine from Austria’s FMA regarding white paper and marketing compliance.
