Micaela Piccoli joins EAES Technology Committee on robotic surgery
Dr. Micaela Piccoli, Director of General, Emergency and New Technologies Surgery at the AOU Modena Hospital Civile di Baggiovara, has been appointed to the Technology Committee of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES). Within the committee she will serve on the Working Group dedicated to robotic surgery, one of twelve members and the sole representative from an Italian hospital, as well as one of four women on the panel.
The Working Group evaluates emerging robotic platforms, develops clinical recommendations, promotes specialist training and coordinates research projects. Italian colleagues Michele Diana (based in Geneva), Antonio Lapergola and Pietro Mascagni (both based in Strasbourg) also participate in the group, though they work for institutions outside Italy. EAES, founded in 1995, aims to advance minimally invasive surgery through rigorous scientific validation and patient‑safety standards.
Silvio di Tella, Director of Health Services at the AOU Modena, praised the appointment, stating it strengthens the hospital’s national and international standing in high‑technology surgery. Piccoli expressed enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility, noting that the role will allow her to help shape the future of robotic surgery in Europe.
