Michael Alfonso wins Wisconsin GOP primary for 7th District
Michael Alfonso, the son-in-law of U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, has secured the Republican nomination for Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District. Alfonso, who received an endorsement from Donald Trump, won the primary with approximately 49% of the vote, defeating runner-up Kevin Hermening, who garnered 27%.
The race follows the announcement that incumbent Republican Representative Tom Tiffany will not seek reelection to the House, as he is running for Governor of Wisconsin. The 7th District, which covers much of northern and northwestern Wisconsin, has been held by Republicans for 15 years.
Alfonso's campaign faced scrutiny during the primary, including allegations of nepotism due to his relationship with Duffy and questions regarding his political inexperience and recent residency in Florida. If successful in the November general election, the 26-year-old Alfonso would be among the youngest members of Congress.
