Michael Beale to serve suspension following referee dispute

Zulte Waregem coach Michael Beale will serve a one-match suspension this weekend following a controversial red card during a match against Union. While the disciplinary committee imposed a three-match suspension, only one match is effective, meaning Beale must watch the upcoming game against Beveren from the stands.

Beale has addressed the incident, acknowledging that he reacted too emotionally toward referee Lothar D’Hondt. However, he strongly disputes the specific language recorded in the referee's report. While D’Hondt reported that Beale used profanity, Beale maintains he actually said ‘you fucking guessed’ rather than the insults attributed to him. During the disciplinary hearing, D’Hondt admitted it was possible he misheard the coach due to the chaotic nature of the moment. Zulte Waregem has confirmed they will not appeal the decision.
