Michael biopic nears $1 billion worldwide box office

Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic "Michael" topped Fandango at Home’s weekly revenue chart for the week ending June 21, leading the digital rental and purchase market alongside titles such as Mortal Kombat II and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

The film has grossed just under $960 million worldwide and is on track to break the $1 billion mark. It set numerous records, including the highest‑grossing music biopic ever and the largest global opening weekend for the genre. Key markets include the United States ($367.9 M domestic), the United Kingdom ($69.8 M), France, Germany, Brazil, Australia, Mexico, Italy, Japan, South Korea, China and Russia, where it became the first film of the year to exceed $20 M.

With less than $40 M needed to reach the billion‑dollar milestone, the next week's earnings will determine whether "Michael" joins the elite list of billion‑dollar movies.
