Michael Boulos visits Alappuzha backwaters in India

Michael Boulos, businessman and son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, made an unannounced visit to Alappuzha, Kerala, on Saturday. Despite heavy monsoon rains, Boulos took a houseboat cruise through the region's backwaters.

Accompanied by an eight-member delegation, Boulos was granted State Guest status, prompting the Kerala Police to implement significant security arrangements. Due to flooding at the main entrance to Punamada Lake, authorities had to arrange alternative routes to facilitate the houseboat trip. US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor welcomed Boulos on X, noting his presence in the region.

The visit occurred shortly before the annual Nehru Trophy Boat Race, scheduled for August 22. Boulos's presence generated international interest in the backwater district, often referred to as the 'Venice of the East.'
