Michael Douglas criticizes Cher’s 1988 Oscar win

During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, actor Michael Douglas stated that Glenn Close should have won the 1988 Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Fatal Attraction. Douglas remarked that Close’s turn in the film was one of the greatest performances of all time, noting that while Close was nominated, Cher ultimately won the award for Moonstruck.

Close, who has received eight Academy Award nominations without a competitive win, joked during the segment that her recent honorary Oscar was likely given because Academy members “probably don’t want to feel guilty anymore.” The exchange, which included fellow guests Kieran Culkin and Naomi Ackie, drew reactions from the studio audience regarding Douglas’s comments on the historical Oscar result.
