Michael Gibson, Queensland pastoralist, dies at 83
Noted Queensland pastoralist Michael ‘Mike’ Gibson has died in Brisbane at the age of 83. A celebration of his life will be held at St Josephs Nudgee College Chapel, followed by a wake at Doomben Racecourse on Wednesday, September 23, and a family burial at Dalby Myall Remembrance Park on Thursday.
Over a 60-year career, Gibson built a significant cattle empire through Gibson Grazing, starting from the family wool-growing property, Gunnadorah, north of Quilpie. He was known for his strategic ability to acquire land and livestock during market pressures. Under his leadership, the enterprise grew to manage approximately 80,000 cattle across more than 2.4 million hectares in Queensland and the Northern Territory.
