Michael Griffiths arrested in Brooklyn hit-and-run death of Kianna Underwood

Michael Griffiths, 72, has been arrested in connection with the January hit-and-run death of former Nickelodeon star Kianna Underwood in Brooklyn. The NYPD charged Griffiths with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

The incident occurred on January 16 in the Brownsville neighborhood. Surveillance footage showed Underwood, 33, crossing the street against a traffic signal at Watkins Street and Pitkin Avenue when a Ford SUV, driven by Griffiths, crossed the double yellow line to pass a stopped vehicle and struck her. A second sedan then ran over Underwood, dragging her several hundred feet.

Underwood was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the incident in January, Griffiths told media outlets that he felt he hit ‘something’ but maintained he ‘did nothing wrong,’ claiming he stopped briefly before leaving to take medication because he felt faint. He also stated he attempted to flag down the second vehicle involved in the incident.
