Michael Hawkins Jr. omitted from Big 12 weekly honors

West Virginia University quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. was not included in the Big 12 Conference’s weekly football awards despite a standout performance against Cincinnati. Hawkins recorded 464 passing yards and three touchdowns, while adding 77 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

The Big 12 named BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier and Houston quarterback Conner Weigman to its weekly honors instead. Bachmeier led BYU to a victory over No. 2 Notre Dame, while Weigman led Houston to a win against Oklahoma State.

While Hawkins was not selected for the conference honors, he was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week. West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez praised Hawkins’ growth and decisiveness, noting that the quarterback’s best football is still ahead of him.
