Michael Hussey rejects England Test coaching role for Cricket Australia consultancy
Former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey has declined an offer to serve as the batting coach for the England Test team. The offer was extended by the newly appointed England Test head coach, Stephen Fleming, with whom Hussey has a long-standing professional relationship from their time at the Chennai Super Kings.
Hussey opted instead for a part-time consultancy role with Cricket Australia. He cited the need for flexibility to maintain his existing commitments, which include commentary duties for Fox Sports and coaching roles such as with Welsh Fire in The Hundred. He noted that a full-time role with England would involve an onerous travel schedule, including tours to South Africa, Bangladesh, and Australia.
The decision leaves the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) searching for a new Test batting coach. Meanwhile, Hussey remains a potential candidate for the head coach position at the Chennai Super Kings, a role that has become vacant following Fleming's move to the England setup.
