Michael J. Fox honored for Parkinson’s disease research advocacy

Actor Michael J. Fox has been honored with the Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award by the Lasker Foundation for his extensive advocacy and contributions to Parkinson’s disease research. Since founding his namesake foundation in 2000, Fox has helped fund more than $3 billion in research aimed at finding a cure for the neurodegenerative disease.

Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in the early 1990s, has used his public platform to reduce the stigma surrounding the condition and accelerate scientific progress. He dedicated the prestigious award to the researchers, clinicians, patients, and families involved in the fight against the disease.

In addition to his philanthropic work, Fox has recently returned to acting in the third season of the series ‘Shrinking’, where he portrays a character living with Parkinson’s, allowing him to reflect his personal experiences on screen.
