Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” tops Oppenheimer as highest‑grossing biopic

The Lionsgate film “Michael”, a biographical drama about Michael Jackson directed by Antoine Fuqua, has earned $977 million worldwide, overtaking Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” ($975.8 million) to become the highest‑grossing biopic of all time. The movie, which debuted in April 2026, has generated $370.2 million in the United States and $607.2 million in international markets, surpassing the previous record set by “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

While the box‑office achievement draws attention, critics note that the film avoids the singer’s long‑standing abuse allegations, presenting a sanitized portrait. A sequel is being considered, with Lionsgate’s Adam Fogelson hinting at possible production in 2027.
