Jaafar Jackson confirms Michael Jackson biopic sequel will address abuse allegations

Jaafar Jackson, who portrays his uncle Michael Jackson in the blockbuster biopic ‘Michael’, has confirmed that the film's sequel will address the child sexual abuse allegations that surfaced during the singer's later years.

The first installment, which became the most successful biographical film in history by earning over £1 billion, concluded its narrative around the ‘Bad’ era in 1987, effectively omitting the controversial period starting in 1993. According to reports, the decision to exclude these allegations in the first film was partly due to a legal clause in a settlement with one of the accusers, which reportedly necessitated $15 million in reshoots to adjust the narrative.

In an interview with GQ Middle East, Jaafar Jackson stated that the second film aims to provide a deeper perspective from Michael Jackson’s own point of view. He noted that the family feels his voice has often been missing from the public conversation, which is frequently driven by the perspectives of others.

Lionsgate expects production for the sequel to begin late this year, with a projected release window between late 2027 and 2028.
