Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’ surpasses $1 billion at global box office
The Michael Jackson biopic, titled ‘Michael’, has achieved historic commercial success, surpassing $1 billion at the global box office. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and starring Jaafar Jackson, the film has become the highest-grossing biographical movie ever made, overtaking previous records held by films such as ‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
International audiences contributed approximately $656 million to the total, while North American markets accounted for roughly $372 million. The film’s narrative focuses on Jackson’s early years and his rise to stardom through the ‘Bad’ era, concluding around 1987. Due to this massive financial performance, Lionsgate has confirmed a sequel, ‘Michael 2’, which is expected to begin filming in late 2026 or early 2027 to cover the later stages of the singer's life.
For home media consumers, the film is being released in various formats, including 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, featuring behind-the-scenes content regarding Jaafar Jackson’s preparation for the role. Additionally, the film will be available for streaming on Prime Video starting October 23.
