Michael Jackson: The life and legacy of the King of Pop

Michael Jackson, known as the ‘King of Pop’, was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana. Growing up in a modest household, he began his musical career as a child with his brothers in the Jackson 5, signing with Motown in 1969.

Jackson transitioned from a child star to a global phenomenon with his solo career, particularly following the release of the 1979 album ‘Off the Wall’ and the 1982 release of ‘Thriller’. The latter became the best-selling album in the world, with estimated global sales exceeding 67 million copies. His performances, such as the debut of the ‘moonwalk’ during the ‘Motown 25’ television special in 1983, revolutionized music videos and live concert spectacles.

Jackson passed away on June 25, 2009, at the age of 50 in Los Angeles, due to acute propofol intoxication.
