Michael Johnston announces upcoming queer-themed project
American actor Michael Johnston has announced plans to return to queer-themed roles following his performance in the film ‘Obsession’. In an interview with the British magazine ‘Attitude’, the openly gay actor expressed his desire to focus on meaningful LGBTQ+ narratives, noting that his recent success allows him more agency in selecting roles. He also mentioned the possibility of developing such projects as a writer in the future.
Reflecting on his career, Johnston discussed the impact of playing the gay character Corey Bryant in the MTV series ‘Teen Wolf’ between 2015 and 2017, stating that positive fan feedback helped him embrace his own sexual orientation. He also shared personal experiences growing up in a homophobic Southern Baptist church in North Carolina, which influenced his perspective on representation.
