Michael Johnston in talks to join 'The Mummy' sequel

Actor Michael Johnston, whose breakout horror film *Obsession* grossed about $458 million worldwide, is reported to be in early negotiations to appear in Universal Pictures’ upcoming installment of *The Mummy* franchise. If a deal is reached, he would join returning stars Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and John Hannah, who are slated to reprise their roles as Rick O’Connell, Evelyn Carnahan and Jonathan Carnahan.

The fourth film, directed by the Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli‑Olpin and Tyler Gillett and scripted by David Coggeshall, is scheduled for release on 15 October 2027 after an earlier date was moved forward. Universal has not confirmed the casting, and the specific character Johnston would play remains undisclosed. The news follows Johnston’s recent rise from supporting roles in *Teen Wolf* and indie projects to leading *Obsession*, which was acquired for $750,000 and became a major box‑office success.
