Michael Jordan's 1998 Finals jersey set for auction

A white Michael Jordan jersey worn during Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals is set to go up for auction, potentially becoming the most expensive basketball jersey in history. The garment, featuring the iconic number 23, was worn during the Chicago Bulls' dominant 96-54 victory over the Utah Jazz, a pivotal moment in the season famously known as ‘The Last Dance’.

The online auction, titled ‘Driven to Greatness’, will be hosted by the platform Joopiter from September 15 to September 29. While experts and the auction house estimate the jersey will fetch between $10 million and $15 million, current owner and sports investor Rob Gough has expressed an even more ambitious outlook, suggesting it could reach as much as $100 million.

If the sale exceeds $10.1 million, it will surpass the previous record for a Jordan jersey, which was set in 2022 for a red jersey worn during Game 1 of the same finals series. This upcoming sale is notable as it is the only publicly known white game-winning jersey from the 1998 Finals available for purchase.
