Michael Jordan concludes limited NBC Sports broadcasting role
Michael Jordan’s role as a ‘special on-air contributor’ for NBC Sports during the 2025–26 NBA season has concluded following limited appearances. While the initial announcement generated significant anticipation, Jordan’s involvement was restricted to a single sit-down interview with play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico, titled ‘MJ: Insights to Excellence.’ The interview was divided into several short segments aired throughout the season.
Speaking at the Front Office Sports Tuned In summit in New York, Mike Tirico addressed fan disappointment regarding the brevity of Jordan’s presence. Tirico explained that Jordan was not interested in the daily routine of a broadcaster or engaging in routine debates about current league players. Tirico noted, ‘I think Michael Jordan hadn’t been on TV for a long time for a reason. He likes being Michael Jordan.’
The segments focused on broader basketball topics, such as player workload management and Jordan’s personal perspectives on the sport, rather than standard game analysis. Reports indicate that Jordan is not expected to return to the network for future coverage.
