Michael Jordan expected to end NBC Sports NBA role

Michael Jordan is not expected to return to his role as a special contributor for NBC Sports during the 2026-27 NBA season. His tenure with the network, which recently regained NBA broadcasting rights, lasted only one season.

During the previous campaign, Jordan’s involvement was limited to a single interview with Mike Tirico. NBC spliced this interview into five segments titled ‘MJ: Insights to Excellence’ to be aired throughout the year. This format drew criticism from analysts like Charles Barkley, who described the approach as a ‘bad look’ for the network, noting that the segments lacked focus on current league events.

While broadcaster Mike Tirico defended the segments as being better than hearing nothing from the legend, the limited appearances led to speculation regarding the effectiveness of the partnership. Since selling his stake in the Charlotte Hornets, Jordan has focused more on his NASCAR team, 23XI Racing. Although reports suggest his departure is likely, some note that Jordan’s unpredictable nature means he could still change his mind.
