Michael Jordan signed basketball card box sells for $1.5 million

A unique 1986/87 Fleer Basketball Box signed by Michael Jordan has sold on eBay for $1.5 million. The item is considered a ‘1-of-1’ rarity, as it is the only sealed box of its kind featuring Jordan’s autograph and the inscription ‘Rookie Card Box’.

The box contains 36 unopened packs from a series highly coveted by collectors because it features the debut cards of several Hall of Fame players, including Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone, and Clyde Drexler. While a standard, unsigned box from the same season is valued at approximately $185,000, the addition of Jordan’s signature significantly increased its market value.

Experts note that the value of the item lies in its status as an untouched piece of basketball history. Opening the box to access individual cards would destroy the unique value of the factory-sealed, autographed container, which was authenticated and protected by Upper Deck.
