Michael Kiwanuka releases new single and announces album amid stroke recovery
British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka has released a new single, ‘Sing’, ahead of his upcoming fifth studio album, ‘Fudge’, scheduled for release on October 23 via Polydor Records.
Kiwanuka revealed that he recently suffered a stroke caused by high blood pressure, resulting in brain hemorrhaging. He described the recovery process as a ‘long and difficult’ road and noted that the brain damage was significant. Due to these health challenges, he has missed several scheduled performances in the United States and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. He expressed gratitude to the NHS medical staff for their care.
The new album, ‘Fudge’, was recorded prior to his health crisis. Marking a creative shift, Kiwanuka has taken on production duties himself for the first time since his 2012 debut, ‘Home Again’, working alongside multi-instrumentalist Joe Connell, producer Dom Monk, and string collaborator Rosie Danvers.
