Michael Kiwanuka releases new single ‘Summer Clothes’
British singer-songwriter Michael Kiwanuka has released ‘Summer Clothes’, the first single from his upcoming fifth studio album, titled ‘FUDGE’. The album is scheduled for release on October 23.
‘Summer Clothes’ serves as a symphonic introduction to the new project. The track was inspired by an interview with the late American jazz pianist Chick Corea, specifically regarding the importance of pursuing what one finds beautiful rather than what sounds good to others. The accompanying music video, directed by Yout, draws inspiration from the everyday creativity found in local tailors in Southampton.
The recording of ‘FUDGE’ took place in early 2025. Its release was delayed by nearly twelve months due to Kiwanuka’s ongoing health struggles, which he has addressed directly with fans on social media. This album marks a significant creative shift, as Kiwanuka has taken over production duties himself, moving away from his long-term collaborators Danger Mouse and Inflo for the first time since his 2012 debut, ‘Home Again’.
