Michael Ludwig announces candidacy for Vienna Mayor beyond 2030

Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig has announced his intention to run again for office in the 2030 municipal elections. Representing the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ), Ludwig aims to continue his current political course, focusing on social issues, climate protection, education, and affordable housing.

A key priority for his future term is healthcare. Ludwig is advocating for a more transparent financing model for “guest patients” who receive treatment in Vienna but reside in other Austrian federal states. He proposed a principle of “money follows performance,” suggesting that the state where a patient resides should cover the costs of medical services provided in Vienna to ensure fair cost-sharing between regions.
