Michael McDonald reunited with son after 60 years

Michael Goessling, a St. Louis man, has discovered that his biological father is Michael McDonald, the Grammy-winning singer and member of The Doobie Brothers. The revelation came after a DNA test conducted by one of McDonald’s other children via 23andMe identified Goessling as a half-brother.

Goessling, who is 58, was adopted as an infant by Paul and Kay Goessling. He noted that he had always known he was adopted and described his upbringing as wonderful. Interestingly, Goessling had been a fan of The Doobie Brothers since childhood, often singing along to their music without knowing his biological connection to the band.

The biological connection dates back nearly 60 years to when McDonald and the mother were both 14 years old. Due to their age and circumstances, they chose to place the child for adoption through Catholic Charities. McDonald expressed that he had carried guilt over the decision for decades, but finding out that Goessling had a good life provided significant relief. The two have since met in person and spoken via telephone.
