Michael Owen documentary explores family life and son's eye condition

Former England footballer Michael Owen is featured in a new six-part Prime Video documentary series, ‘Meet the Owens’. The series provides a look into his family life and his efforts to expand his horse racing business from his home in Flintshire.

The documentary follows the various paths of the Owen children, including daughter Gemma Owen, who is training in horse racing, and daughter Jessica, who is pursuing showjumping. A significant aspect of the series and Owen’s recent public discussions involves his son, James Owen.

James was diagnosed with Stargardt disease, a rare inherited eye disorder, at the age of eight. The condition has resulted in the loss of central vision, leaving him clinically blind and reliant on peripheral vision. Owen has spoken candidly about the impact of the condition, noting how it has shaped their relationship and his son's desire to build a future within the family's racing operation.
